Other Options
Many of the settings in the "Other Options" tab are used by system admins and subsite admins.
Type
The first dropdown 'Type' is where you will specify what type of subsite this is going to be. Right now the system has 4 types of subsites: departments, institute, lab, main. main indicates that the specific subsite is the main site of the School Of Engineering. It is reserved only for the main site and should NOT be used when a new subsite is created.
Shortname
The 'shortname' is an acronym for the subsite. For example, the department "Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering" has a shortname of "EMAE". This is used when creating URL structures and other places where an acronym can be used. Each subsite should have an acronym.
List Description
The List Description will provide a brief description of the subsite when displayed on the content list on the management interface.
Teaser
The teaser is an image that is used to display the subsite on other tagged subsites or research thrust pages. Next is an example of the "Nitronol" lab subsite listed on the "Institutes, Centers and Labs" section of Material's Science department subsite. The image displayed on the list reflects the image uploaded above.
Research Thrust / Subsite Tag
In the next 2 sections, you can add the subsite to other subsites or research thrusts. This will make the subsite show on those pages.
In the first section, you can tag research thrusts. If the subsite is tagged on a research thrust page it will display on the list of "Institutes, Centers and Labs related to" that specific research thrust. The following image shows the Nitinol subsite displaying on the list of related subsites for the research thrust "Reliability and Lifetime Performance of Materials Systems".
This is the same for the "Related Subsites". If the subsite is it tagged/related to another subsite/department, it will display in the list of "Institutes, centers and labs related to" the subsite you tag. On the following image is an example of the Nitinol subsite tagged on the Materials Science & Engineering subsite department:
People associated
This setting can be used when we want to associate a profile with the subsite. When we are dealing with department subsites, faculty profiles will often already be associated with the list since the system automatically inserts them. This setting can be used by the subsite editor when you need to add staff to the Staff's display list. If a staff profile is added, it will automatically show on the Department's list for administrative staff. The following image is the list of administrative staff on the Materials Science & Engineering department:
