Adding a new Patent

Most of the fields that make up a Patent are self-explanatory. Below you will see the fields/values needed for Patents that aren't as obvious, or need specific values if you want the Patent to be visible on the site and on your profile.

Set the "Type" field to "Patent":

Set the "Patent Type" field to "Regular".

Set the Application/Approved dates as needed. If the Patent is pending, enter a date in the Application field and leave the Approved field blank.
The date value should follow the pattern shown below the field. Please note, the period is still needed for the month of May (i.e. May. 4, 2023) even though it isn't abbreviated.

Add all of the Patent Authors, one at a time.

1. Enter the CaseID of the Patent-Author if they are Faculty or Staff at CWRU. Older Patents may have the old Digital Measures IDs listed in that field instead. That is OK.
2. Enter the full First Name of the Patent-Author. Do not enter an Initial only, the system will format it properly for you.
3. Enter the Last Name of the Patent-Author.
4. Click "Create Patent Author"
5. Repeat above steps for each Patent-Author you need to add to this Patent.
