ThinkEnergy Fellows 2017-2018

Katherine Francissen

Katherine is a third year student with a major in Chemical Engineering and concentration in Management and Marketing. She has previously researched the thermal properties of carbon fiber materials at Case, and is currently at the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, West Virginia researching pyrochlore catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells.

Katherine Steinberg

Katie is a rising senior in the Chemical Engineering department with a minor in Environmental Studies who originally hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. On campus, she does research related to electrochemistry. This summer, she is working full-time on a research project related to deep eutectic solvents.

Amit K. Verma

Amit is a Graduate Student with the Deptartment of Materials Science and Engineering since August 2014.   He is currently working towards his Ph.D. under Prof. Jennifer L.W. Carter.  His research focuses on materials informatics and its application in metals design and is working with the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory to design the next generation of 9-12% Cr steels.

Prince Ghosh

Prince is a fourth year Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering student from Princeton, New Jersey. As a Founder of Boundary Laboratories, he's currently in the process of commercializing a low cost vibration sensor technology to detect and predict gearbox failure in wind turbines with two other ThinkEnergy Fellows. This summer he is interning at the NASA Glenn Research Center with Zin Technology.

Lucas Fridman

Lucas is a third year Chemical Engineering and Applied Data Science student from Baltimore, Maryland. Currently, he is working on a project with the Solar Durability and Lifetime Extension (SDLE) Center modelling solar modules, developing a company called Boundary Laboratories, and working at Black Diamond Structures applying carbon nanotube technology to lithium ion batteries.

Amelia Samett

Amelia is a senior Mechanical Engineering major with a dance minor.  She has always had a passion for the environment and energy, especially wind.  This summer, she has an internship at Invenergy, a renewable energy company in Chicago.  She dances with the Mather Dance Collective and Tap Club and is a member of the sorority Phi Sigma Rho, Tau Beta Pi, and Gamma Sigma Alpha.

Fan Yang

Fan is currently a Ph.D. student working under the supervision of Professor Yuan in Mechanical Engineering. She is now focusing on the environmental impact assessment of electric vehicles (EVs). She is a Research Assistant in the department and this summer is studying the environmental impacts of autonomous taxi EVs.

Nihar Chhatiawala

Nihar is a second year master's student of Physics & Entrepreneurship from Fort Wayne, Indiana. His interests include conservation and energy innovation. He is currently working with the startup Boundary Laboratories aiming to commercialize a technology to improve wind turbine performance. This summer he plans on finishing his thesis and interning with Bush Consulting Group.

Alejandro Owen Aquino

Ale is a fourth year student with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the Boundary Labs team that developed airfoil drag reducing technology for wind turbines.  He is spending his summer at the University of Michigan under the Summer Research Opportunity Program working on distributed power generators and thermal-photovoltaic solar power generation.

Pavel Galchenko

Pavel is a senior  Biochemistry major .  He is an entrepreneur and founded RVS Rubber Solutions.  His company provides a sustainable solution to the growing rubber waste problem.   The goal is to reduce 100 million pounds of tire waste and reduce the amount of imported rubber compound.
