An Innovative Educational Approach

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science brings together five degree programs under one umbrella, allowing students to benefit from the resulting synergy of electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, data science and analytics, and systems and control degrees. Our approach serves as a model for innovative education and research.

The department offers five undergraduate degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Systems and Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Data Science and Analytics, along with progressive tracks and minors for undergraduate students. We also offer four graduate degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science.

Students gain theoretical knowledge in the classroom, as well as hands-on research in the lab as early as their first year.  They also can also  gain real-world experience through the engineering school's extensive co-operative education program.

Our outstanding faculty are involved in cutting-edge research and collaborations. And our department has strong industrial relationships, including job opportunities, sponsored research and industrial training opportunities.

After graduation, many of our students continue that education at the finest graduate schools including MIT, GeorgiaTech, Cornell, and Ohio State.  Others prefer to enter the job market.  Our alumni can be found at many of the nation's top companies including  Alltel, Epic Systems, General Electric, St. Jude Medical Center, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Accenture, American Electric Power, CWRU, Dell, Dominion East Ohio Gas, DuPont, Eaton Corporation, First Energy, Guidant,  Lincoln Electric Company, Medtronic, NASA Glenn, PPG Industries, and Toyota.
