Tenure-Track Faculty Position (2026-2027 Hiring Cycle):

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invites applications for a tenure-track (TT) faculty position at the rank of AssistantProfessor, with an anticipated start date on or after July 1, 2027.

This position is part of an ambitious faculty hiring plan during 2026/2027 within the Case School of Engineering (CSE). It is in support of the President’s and Provost’s Faculty 100 Initiative to hire at least 100 new tenure and tenure-track faculty at CWRU (https://case.edu/provost/initiatives/facultny-100) by 2028 in areas that address global challenges.

The MAE department at CWRU has a renowned history of scholarly activities that encompass a broad range of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, from microgravity to biologically inspired robotics, biomechanics, point-of-care biosensing, additive and hybrid manufacturing, artificial intelligence/machine learning for data analytics, learning-enabled control, thermal management, hypersonic aerodynamics, fire science and engineering, and computational fluid dynamics.

We seek an outstanding scholar with a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, a strong interdisciplinary background and a compelling vision for establishing a competitively funded research program aligned with the university’s Faculty 100 plan, advancing strategic priorities in “Sustainable Manufacturing & Advanced Materials” and “AI, Data Analytics & Methodology”. Areas of research interest include computational solid mechanics, particularly for aerospace applications, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML)-enabled constitutive modeling for high-strain-rate deformation, hypersonic aerothermal effects, and mechanics of materials in extreme environments. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a clear plan for integrating AI into coursework to prepare the next generation of researchers and engineers. The candidate is also expected to contribute through service to the department, university, and broader professional communities.

Applicants should submit a cover letter describing interest in the position and fit with the department; curriculum vitae; research statement outlining past accomplishments and future plans; teaching statement describing instructional philosophy and experience; copies of three representative journal papers; and the names and contact information for three professional references. Application materials should be submitted as a single PDF file addressed to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Case Western Reserve University, via Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/195239

Screening of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  For questions related to the position, please contact Dr. Paul Barnhart at pjb4@case.edu or Dr. Roger Quinn at rdq@case.edu, Co-Chairs of the MAE Faculty Search Committee.
