  • Mustafa Unal selected as finalist in the 2016 CIMIT Technology Prize for Primary Healthcare Competition (5/15/2016)

Mustafa Unal’s project has been selected as one of the exclusive list of ten finalists in the 2016 CIMIT Student Technology Prize for Primary Healthcare Competition. With this honor, Mustafa and his team have received $10,000 for research expenses and to prepare for the full application in August 2016, in which they will compete for three top prizes: $150,000, $100,000, or $50,000.

The proposed new technology in the project, which has been developed over the past few years in our lab, will enable diagnosis of two common crystals inducedarthropathies: gout and pseudogout outside major healthcare settings where majority of the patients are treated and provide a precise, user friendly, expert independent and more informed decision about the presence or absence of crystalline arthritis which is essential for timely inception of therapy or help avoid unnecessary treatments.

The Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) Prize for Primary Health Care is a national and highly selective competition aimed to encourage engineering students to apply their creative skills to the development of technological innovations in the domain of primary care.

Congratulations to Mustafa for this distinguished national recognition!
