Mixed Reality Home Therapy Gym

Chen Zhao, MS Candidate

Mixed Reality overlays digital objects on real-world objects, allowing interactions between them at the same time. The aim of this project is enable individuals with stroke to practice using their paretic limbs at home, which may help them participate in fun, effective and natural rehabilitation.

Currently, stroke rehabilitation occurs mostly in the therapy clinic and are limited to several visits per month. Few effective home-based treatments exist.

This project uses Microsoft HoloLens (a mixed reality headset) and LeapMotion (a sensor that tracks hand and finger motions) to create a mixed reality game with different tasks that may help post-stroke individuals practice their motor skills. These include hand motions and walk exercising at home.
