Adult Stroke Neurorehabilitation

Investigating Effect of Hand Therapy Video Games

Supported by Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Stroke is a top cause of lifelong disability. One-third of people with stroke are unable to regain daily use of one arm after 6 months of conventional care, so more effective treatments are needed. We developed an innovative home-based treatment for improving hand function after stroke. In this study, adults with hand disability on one side of the body are randomized to two 12-week treatments: 1) hand therapy video games paried with assistive electrical muscle stimulation and 2) assistive electrical muscle stimulation alone. For study recruitment information, see Clinicaltrials.gov.
