Not just for engineers! The Innovation Fellows Program is a paid semester-long program that brings together Case Western Reserve and Cleveland Institute of Art students to work as a team on moonshot projects provided by a sponsoring company. This multidisciplinary team format provides a fun, comprehensive approach to product development while replicating a dynamic, corporate culture. Fellows engage in the complete product development cycle including:
- Needs Assessment
- Pitch Presentation
Through the program, Fellows participate in topical seminars including Client Relations, Design Thinking, and Product Development and also receive training on equipment and software including SOLIDWORKS, LaserCutters, and 3D Printers. Ongoing project consultation is provided to Fellows by top-level professional talent from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Institute of Art, and sponsoring companies. The fellowship introduced me to talented multidisciplinary individuals and industry experts who shared their strengths and expertise, enabling my team to think outside the box for unique product ideas.
The projects we worked on were stimulating and challenged us to go beyond our comfort zones. I've grown professionally and personally as an Innovation Fellow; I'm grateful and proud to have been a part of it.
The innovation fellows program was a very unique experience in that I got to experience product development from market research all the way to a final prototype. Doing so not only as a solo engineer, but as a team of people from diverse professional backgrounds, added so much more value to the entire experience.
