Dr. Pallavi Tiwari is an assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering and the director of Brain Image Computing laboratory at Case Western Reserve University since 2016. She is also an associate member of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Tiwari finished her PhD from Rutgers University in 2012 and moved to Case Western Reserve as an assistant research professor. Her research interests lie in pattern recognition, data mining, and image analysis for automated computerized diagnostic, prognostic, and treatment evaluation solutions using radiologic imaging. She have been a recipient of Case-Coulter Translational awards from 2013 to 2015, and was twice nominated for NIH Director’s Early Independence Award. In 2015, She was named by Government of India as one of 100 women achievers for making a positive impact in the field of Science and Innovation. She is leading a team of researchers on multiple projects in prognosis and treatment evaluation in brain tumors and neurological disorders. Her research is funded through the state of Ohio and Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. |
Research Associate |
Dr. Mitra is a senior research associate at the Brain Image Computing lab in biomedical engineering Dept, Case Western Reserve University since December 2015. She completed her PhD in 2012 with a joint degree from University of Burgundy, France and University of Girona, Spain in Computer Science and Image Processing. After this, she completed a postdoctoral training period of 3 years in CSIRO, Brisbane Australia gaining an extensive knowledge in brain image analysis on MRI. Her specific research interests include brain lesion segmentation, studying morphometric and structural changes in the brain using conventional and diffusion MRI, using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. She is specialized in developing automated segmentation algorithms and deformable registration techniques. She received the Erasmus Mundus VIBOT scholar award during her postdoctoral term for a research stay at the University of Burgundy, France in 2014. |

Prateek Prasanna is a graduate research assistant at CCIPD and BrIC lab, Case Western Reserve University. His research focuses on developing companion diagnostic tools for oncology and neuro-imaging applications using computer vision and machine learning techniques. He has been working towards developing CAD tools to non-invasively characterize tumor subtypes (brain and breast), and distinguish treatment confounders from cancers. He has been a recipient of the Charles Pankow Innovation of the year award and ASCE NJ section award in 2014. Prior to joining Case, he was a research assistant under Dr. Kristin Dana in the Vision Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rutgers University. His masters’ research involved developing machine vision systems for robotic bridge deck inspections. Prateek is an avid painter, loves playing Tabla (an Indian percussion instrument) and is an ardent Federer fan. |

Niha Beig is a graduate research assistant at the BrIC lab, Case Western Reserve University. Her research focus is on developing assistive diagnostic tools in the field of neuro-oncology using data science and machine learning techniques. She has been working on drawing insights from ‘big data’ of quantitative medical images and genomic sequences to help distinguish various subtypes of cancers in adult and pediatric gliomas. Prior to joining Case, she was a research intern under Dr. Jayaram K Udupa in Medical Image Processing Group, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Her masters’ research involved automatic detection of lymph node zones in lung CT based on the guidelines from IASLC 2014. Niha is a voracious reader and enjoys works of P.G.Wodehouse, Ayn Rand and John Grisham. When not in lab, she goes backpacking by leveraging Case’s proximity to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. |
