The cricket micro-robot project was a collaborative project by an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students as part of the DARPA Distributed Robotics (DR) program.
This project was active from 1998 until 2002
The goal of the cricket project was to develop a micro autonomous legged robot capable of traversing a variety of terrains. A micro-robot is no larger than 5 cm in any dimension. Due to the scale of the robot many components were developed as part of the project to provide actuation and sensing capabilities.
The technologies developed were tested on several prototype platforms as well as in the development of a series of Cricket Carts. The technologies were finally used in the construction of a full six-legged micro cricket.
