Veterans Day message from Dean Balakrishnan

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” - John F. Kennedy

Today, on Veterans Day, we recognize all who have served in the United States armed forces and honor their sacrifices. On behalf of the Case School of Engineering, thank you to all of the veterans in our community, those whose family members have served, as well as the faculty whose research supports veterans across the country. This day of recognition is for you.

To reference the quote at the beginning of this message, it’s not just about the words of thanks we express but the actions of gratitude we take in our daily lives that truly showcase our appreciation.

A great example of living this mission is seen through Biomedical Engineering Professor Ron Triolo’s outstanding efforts. Earlier this year, Ron was named the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Employee of the Year by Disabled American Veterans for his work in restoring movement and sensation for veterans with paralysis and limb loss.

I know Ron’s story is just one in a long list of tremendous work this community is doing on behalf of our veterans and our country. We are immensely proud of the Case School of Engineering servicemen and women among our alumni, students, faculty and staff, and express our immense gratitude for all those who continue to make the ultimate commitment.
