Umut Gurkan gives invited lecture on sickle cell disease monitoring system

Umut Gurkan, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, gave the Translational Research Featured New Investigator Lecture at the annual meeting of the Central Society for Clinical and Translational Research and the Midwestern Section of the American Federation for Medical Research in April.

Gurkan discussed his work developing a biochip that measures red blood cell adhesion as a means to monitor sickle cell disease. He received the societies’ Featured New Investigator award for the project.
