Summer Spotlight: Veebha Havaldar

Veebha Havaldar

Major: Biomedical Engineering
Expected Graduation: 2025

  • Where is your research opportunity located or who is it in partnership with?

Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute

  • Explain the details of your research.

My project is in melanoma prevention, and characterizing different pigments in the skin.

  • How did you find this opportunity?

This is my third summer in the Krishna Lab and my second summer participating in the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center’s CanSUR program!

  • What has your experience been so far?

Working in a lab is a lot of fun. I’ve been having a great time trying to propose structures for these pigments, and I was able to give my first longer oral presentation last month!

  • What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to presenting again at the end of the summer, and at Intersections!

  • What's your best advice for students who might be looking for a similar opportunity?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and get the most you can from whatever you do! (I’m also a peer advisor for the school of engineering, so this is a great question:) )

  • Anything else to share?

This is my third summer in Cleveland, and I’m a huge fan. I also like to rock climb and go to the beach when I’m not in lab!
