Shuo Li, professor of biomedical engineering, has been named a 2025 fellow of Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) for “pioneering medical image analysis and processing using advanced machine learning, enhancing diagnostics and safety.”

“This fellowship symbolizes a commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, mentoring the next generation of researchers, and exemplifying leadership to make a lasting impact on science and society,” Li shared.

SPIE's strong focus on fostering innovation and collaboration in biomedical imaging drew Li to join the organization 12 years ago. His involvement with SPIE, however, started a few years earlier, in 2005, when he gave his first presentation at the organizations’ annual medical imaging conference.

Throughout his years as an SPIE member, Li has delivered a keynote address at the Medical Imaging Conference, actively contributes as a reviewer SPIE Journal of Medical Imaging and serves in leadership roles for SPIE conferences.

“Being named a Fellow of SPIE is a profound honor that recognizes my leadership and contributions to advancing AI in medical imaging and the collaborative spirit that drives innovation in these fields,” Li said.
