Gary Wnek presents at Innovation Leader Teach-In event

Gary Wnek, the Joseph F. Toot Jr. Professor in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, joined representatives from Cleveland-based Innovation firm Nottingham Spirk for a whiteboard session on “Keys to Unlocking University Innovation” at Innovation Leader’s Teach-In Oct. 10-12 in Boston.
Held at MIT’s Media Lab, the event brought executives in research and development, design, corporate venturing and new product development together to share best practices and explore common challenges. The session also discussed the value of long-term relationships between companies and academic institutions.


Wnek, along with Vikki Nowak, VP Strategy and Bill Nottingham, VP Business Development—discussed Case Western Reserve’s innovation ecosystem built around the Larry Sears and Sally Zlotnick Sears think[box] innovation center and the university’s collaborative relationship with Nottingham Spirk. Nowak and Nottingham highlighted their firm’s Pathfinder program and collaborative work on the launch of CardioInsight Technologies, a Case Western Reserve innovation breakthrough in heart imaging which was recently acquired by Medtronic.
