About Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Female and male student conducting research

We’ve been an academic and research powerhouse in chemical and biomolecular engineering since 1884. Our field-leading faculty are developing new battery chemistries to facilitate seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid, discovering better ways to filter air in outer space and fine-tuning nuclear forensics. These same boundary-busting projects—along with so many more—provide real-world experience to our students from the undergraduate level up to those pursuing PhDs, giving them the chance to be part of engineering solutions to the world’s biggest challenges.

History

Our legacy of innovation includes serving as the launching pad for one of the world’s biggest chemical companies, and that’s only the beginning.
