Computer science and data science pervade everything we do, with applications from biomedical research to finance to clean energy.

Established in 2019, the new Department of Computer & Data Sciences in the Case School of Engineering will provide you with a rich field of challenging classes and opportunities for hands-on research. We thrive to provide outstanding educational experiences for both our graduate and undergraduate students, while performing cutting-edge research in algorithms, AI and machine learning, bioinformatics, data science and analytics, databases and data mining, networks, security and privacy, and software engineering. Our students can choose a variety of degree programs offered by our department.

Degree Programs

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
    This program is designed to train students with fundamental technical knowledge and skills in computer science, and to enable them to advance the field of computer science and its application to other disciplines. The Bachelor of Science degree program in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

  • Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics
    This major is one of the first undergraduate programs nationwide in the field. The rigorous curriculum includes statistical and computational modeling, big data systems, data analytics, data visualization, fundamental knowledge from a chosen data domain, and project-based applications—all elements of the future emerging field of data science.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science
    The Bachelor of Arts program in Computer Science is a combination of a liberal arts program and a computing major. The flexibility offered by this program allows students to easily add another major to their study, which enables them to become experts in both fields. 

  • BS/MS Integrated Program
    Want to master your field? With our integrated honors program, you can earn your bachelor's and master's degrees in just five years.

  • Doctor of Computing and Information Sciences

  • Minors in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Gaming
    The Department of Computer and Data Sciences also offers minors in computer science, computer gaming and artificial intelligence. 


The Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University invites applications and nominations for the inaugural Chair of the Department of Computer and Data Sciences. Appointment will be at the level of Professor with tenure, and the endowed Kranzusch Professorship has been reserved for the successful applicant.
