The SDLE Research Center at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is a world-class research center dedicated to data science and analytics applied to materials and energy sciences.
Established in 2011 by Prof. Roger H. French, the SDLE Center focuses on:-
○ Lifetime and degradation science of solar photovoltaic (PV) materials, and other environmentally exposed, long-lived (>25 years) technologies
○ Accelerated laboratory and outdoor real-world exposures and evaluations of outdoor exposed technologies such as solar, led lighting and building envelope materials
○ Energy efficiency and virtual energy auditing of buildings, using engineering epidemiology and data analytics
○ Data-mining, statistical- and machine-learning applied to materials
○ Petabyte/Petaflop big data analytics applied to time-series, spectral and image datasets
○ Non-relational data warehousing and analytics environment for complex systems
If you are curious about data science, then join the SDLE Research Center for a series of free and informal presentations on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 3:00 PM in Bingham 204 at CWRU campus. Click here for a detailed schedule.

How large is the so-called skills gap?
The Manpower Group, a human resources consulting firm, says the gap, which is often defined as the difference in job skills required and the actual skills possessed by employees, is a chasm. Of the more than 42,000 employers the firm surveyed last year, 40 percent said they were having difficulties filling roles, the highest level since 2007.
IEA PVPS published its new technical reports on PV Performance on Monday 29 May 2017.
Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available in the SDLE Research Center in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, under the direction of Prof. Roger H. French. This materials science research focuses on optical characterization of the degradation of polymeric materials under solar radiation and environmental exposure.
Tim has accepted a position as a Staff Scientist at Nasa Glenn in Energy Storage and Photovoltaics research.
Thanks for your many contributions and being an excellent colleague. Best wishes on your new adventure!
A Post-Doctoral Research Associate/Senior Research Associate position for a materials scientist/engineer is available in the SDLE Research Center, Case School of Engineering under the direction of Prof. Roger H. French. The research focuses on using a data analytics approach to understanding and predicting photovoltaic module material degradation, optimizing PV and accelerating adoption of new technology, such as PERC solar cells.
This project investigates the impact of surface modification of the transparent electrode in thin film copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) solar cells on improving the reliability. The modification with a molecular surface modifier will limit chemical exposure of the cell to water and acetic acid from the breakdown of ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) encapsulants. The modification is expected to double the lifetime of the cell.
A Post-Doctoral Research Associate/Senior Research Associate position for a statistician is available in the SDLE Research Center, Case School of Engineering under the direction of Prof. Roger H. French. The research focuses on using a data analytics approach to understanding and predicting photovoltaic module material degradation, opening up the risk-reducing or riskaverse market of PV module lifetimes and accelerating adoption of new technology adoption.
