Professor Heo co-moderated a session on "Multiple Hazard Risk for Petrochemical and Energy Infrastructure" at the 2018 Structures Congress in Fort Worth, TX. Six speakers, three from industries and three from academia, gave talks on onshore and offshore petrochemical infrastructure design, evaluation and risk assessment of multiple hazards.

Prof. Heo gave a talk in the 2nd Annual DigitalC-CLE X, Cleveland, OH. DigitalC-CLE X is an experimental day-long event to bring together Cleveland’s best minds in tech, design, art, science and education and to share creativity, spark ideas developing in Cleveland through 7-minute rapid-fire presentations. Professor Heo gave a talk titled “Risk Management & Disaster Mitigation” during this local networking event.

The 2017 Gulf Research Program Early-Career Research Fellow

Professor Heo has been selected as an Early-Career Research Fellow of the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEMfor Award Year 2017. These competitive fellowships recognize emerging professionals at the critical pre-tenure phase of their careers for exceptional leadership, past performance, and potential for future contributions to improving oil system safety, human health and well-being, or environmental protection. Prof. Heo is the only recipient from Structural Engineering out of ten recipients mostly from biology, chemistry, environmental engineering and policy across the country in 2017.
