The 2017 Gulf Research Program Early-Career Research Fellow

Professor Heo has been selected as an Early-Career Research Fellow of the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEMfor Award Year 2017. These competitive fellowships recognize emerging professionals at the critical pre-tenure phase of their careers for exceptional leadership, past performance, and potential for future contributions to improving oil system safety, human health and well-being, or environmental protection. Prof. Heo is the only recipient from Structural Engineering out of ten recipients mostly from biology, chemistry, environmental engineering and policy across the country in 2017.

Professor Heo presented an important issue in evaluating the system-level performance using the finite element analysis method (FEM) for structures composed of strain-rate dependent materials during the 36 International Conference on Ocean, Offshore & Artic Engineering (OMAE 2017) in Trondheim, Bergen.

Moderated Two Sessions at 2017 ASCE SEI Conference

Professor Heo moderated two sessions titled 'Extreme Loads on Offshore Structures' during the 2017 ASCE-SEI Structures Congress in Denver, Colorado. Profesor Heo also gave a presentation on 'Multi-Hazards for Offshore Structure Installation' in one of her sessions.

FLACS Training at Case Western Reserve University

MHS-DRISK LAB held FLACS Training Courses on campus by by support from GexCon AS and CWRU ACES Opportunity Grant. 

Professor Heo and GexCon will plan to continue to hold an intensive joint training course program on Engineering Probability and Risk Analysis + Explosion and Fire Risk Analysis using FLACS at CWRU hereafter.
