Advancing the next generation of materials for healthier, more sustainable living. From more compatible biomedical implants that meld seamlessly with the body’s own tissue to coatings that protect off-shore wind turbines from the elements, the Institute for Advanced Materials at Case Western Reserve University is creating the next generation of materials.

Established as an interdisciplinary test research alliance under the university’s strategic plan and aided by the largest grant from the 2010 Provost’s Investment Fund, the institute provides a central hub for collaborations among the university’s researchers, private industry and government partners that drive innovation of new materials from ideas to proven models to marketable technology. In line with the university's overall strategic plan, Forward Thinking, the institute is focusing its fundamental materials research efforts on three key areas: energy, sustainability, and human health.
